"My Still LIfe paintings are a kind of self-portrait. The subjects of my paintings are interesting items (to me) that turn up in multiple ways. I live with flowers, weeds and fruits from the yard, ducks I raised, a hummingbird family that nested in the backyard walnut tree, and objects picked up while walking out in the hills. I often choose a central formal composition, focusing on the subject in a meditative way, moving forward intuitively as the painting progresses, rather than designing beforehand and then executing the plan.
